The Cheyenne Indians which means red talker or people of different speech originated from the Missouri and Red rivers. The Cheyenne were excelent Buffalo hunters and very much depended on buffalo for food, shelter, and more.
It is said that the Cheyenne was created by Heammawehio who created men from his right rib and women from his left.
This is the Northern Cheyenne flag. This symbol represents morning star which is also what Dull Knife was known by. This symbol was used during the sun dance ceremony. the warriors would paint it on their chest before the dance began. Chief Dull Knife The cheif of the northern Cheyenne was named Dull Knife Dull Knife and his tribe was first publicly noticed in 1868 when he signed a treaty with the U.S and Arapaho indians. | This is the southern Cheyenne and Arapaho indians flag. The 14 feathers represent the original tribe counil members. The arrow pointing down and the peace pipe means that the tribes are at peace. in the center of the flag is the seal of there treaty. |
